A low wood deck replaced in white composite in Streamwood
An old, low wood deck behind a Streamwood home, replaced with a bright white composite deck and black aluminum railings. Same house, same angle, in the slider below. Streamwood filled up in the 60s and 70s and a lot of its first decks are at this stage.

What the homeowners wanted
A deck that looked bright instead of tired, without a yearly coat of stain. The old one sat low to the ground and had done its time. They liked the idea of a light board with a dark railing, which is the reverse of what most people pick, and it suits the house.
How we built it
Tear-out and a new frame. Low decks trap moisture underneath, and the frame on an older one is often worse than the boards suggest. This one was replaced from the footings up.
White composite boards. A light capped composite stays cooler in the sun than a dark one and shows the black railing off. It washes clean.
Black aluminum railing. Powder-coated aluminum, slim balusters, no painting. It is the railing we install most, and on a white deck it is the first thing you see from the yard.
Streamwood issues its own deck permit through the Community Development Department; we file it and handle inspections on every job. Read more on our Streamwood deck builder page, or see what replacement involves on the deck replacement page.
