A weathered raised deck rebuilt in composite in Hoffman Estates
A weathered raised wood deck behind a Hoffman Estates home, rebuilt with composite decking and black aluminum railings. Same deck, same angle, in the slider below. This is the second Hoffman Estates rebuild on the site; the other is a 16 by 20 Trex Foggy Wharf deck with white railing.

What the homeowners wanted
A raised deck that had gone grey and loose, replaced with something they could stop maintaining. They wanted a darker, cleaner look than the old wood, and a railing that did not look like a fence.
How we built it
Down to the ledger and back up. A raised deck puts real load on its posts, so a rebuild here means new piers, not new boards on old legs.
Hoffman Estates pier rules. The village publishes them: 42 inches below grade, and any pier inside the foundation over-dig (about 5 feet from the house wall) goes to footing depth, because that ground was disturbed when the house was built. Posts sit on top of the piers, never in the ground. We build to those numbers by habit.
Composite boards and black aluminum railing. A capped composite surface and slim powder-coated aluminum balusters. From the yard the railing reads as a line, not a wall.
See the village's full deck requirements on our Hoffman Estates deck builder page, the other Hoffman Estates job on the Trex Foggy Wharf replacement page, or how a rebuild runs on the deck replacement page.
